The fourth monarch of Hawai‘i came to the throne well-schooled and widely traveled. Alexander Liholiho, grandson of Kamehameha the Great and hānai (adopted) son of Kamehameha III, was deeply concerned with the welfare of his people and is best remembered for his efforts in helping to establish the Queen’s Hospital and various churches and schools.
The “Monarchy Series” is a set of intermediate chapter books. Each title details the biographies of Hawaiʻi’s monarchs, beginning with Kamehameha the Great. This volume speaks to the life of Kamehameha the Fourth, Alexander Liholiho, grandson of Kamehameha the First.
Each reader presents invaluable content for learning about the various monarchs and the historical impacts of the events taking place during their reigns. The titles can be used as companion texts in courses and classes covering the monarchy, or they can be used independently.
