Description
Found only in Hawaiʻi, the Koa butterfly (Udara blackburni) plays a vital role in forest ecosystems. This species is one of only two native butterflies in Hawaiʻi. The koa butterfly depends on native plants like koa (Acacia koa) and ʻiliahi (Santalum) for survival. Their presence signals intact, functioning ecosystems.
